Will setting up a 2nd phone line be a problem?

I work from home and I just found out I have to have a separate phone line by Monday. I've called a local telephone company and they can do it, but the told me after they install it I may have to get a technician out here to 'rewire' it so I can use the 2nd phone line. I won't be able to get a technician out here before my deadline to set it up, but someone told me that most houses are already set up to be able to receive 2 separate phone lines without having to be touched my a technician. From experience, is this true and has anyone one else had an easy or hard time getting a second phone line installed without having to call a technician?
