Can i wire normal speakers to type cm wire?

when i rewired my house i put in some speaker wire and was advised to use type cm (ul). i know nothing about wiring and need some advise on connecting some speakers, i have an old surround system with normal speaker wire. is there anyway of connecting to two of them? thanks
