How hard is it to rewire a classic VW Beetle?

I am new to VW's and just purchased a basket case for my daughter. The car is solid, and runs fairly well. But the electrical is a mess. I have no problem with engine or trans work, but electrical makes me nervous. Anyone know how to rewire these old Bugs? How much should it cost me just to pay someone to do it for me?
